Graha · The Nine Planets
☊ Rahu राहु
The north node — obsession, ambition and the hunger of this lifetime.
Rahu, the north lunar node, is the head of the celestial serpent — a point of insatiable worldly hunger. It marks where the soul is obsessed in this life, driven to over-reach, accumulate and break taboos. Rahu amplifies whatever house and planet it touches and casts the glamour of maya over it. It can give meteoric, unexpected success — and just as suddenly snatch it away. Its placement (always opposite Ketu) shows the axis of your karmic growing edge: where you must engage the world, even though it never quite satisfies.

What Rahu signifies
Rahu is the karaka (natural significator) of worldly desire, obsession, foreign things, illusion (maya), sudden gains, taboo, technology, poison. In the body it governs acts on the nervous system; linked to mysterious, hard-to-diagnose conditions. Professionally it favours foreign trade, technology, aviation, film, speculation, anything new, taboo or boundary-breaking.
When Rahu is strong
Worldly ambition, originality, fame, sudden rises, mastery of the new and the foreign.
When Rahu is weak or afflicted
Obsession, anxiety, deception, addictions, scandal, confusion and unending dissatisfaction.
Dignity — where Rahu is strong and weak
Rahu is exalted in Taurus / Gemini (by tradition) and debilitated in Scorpio / Sagittarius. It rules — (co-rules Aquarius) as its own sign, where it is comfortable and strong. It treats Mercury, Venus, Saturn as friends and Sun, Moon, Mars as enemies, and is neutral to Jupiter. We compute dignity precisely (exalted, moolatrikona, own, friend, neutral, enemy, debilitated) in your live chart using Lahiri sidereal positions.
