Dasha · Major Period 7/9
Jupiter Mahadasha गुरु / बृहस्पति
A 16-year Vimshottari period governed by Jupiter ♃ — wisdom, fortune, the guru — the great benefic (Brihaspati).
The Jupiter mahadasha is widely considered the most auspicious of all — sixteen years under the great benefic. Jupiter is wisdom, dharma, fortune and children, so this period tends to expand and bless: education and higher knowledge, wealth, marriage (especially for women), the birth of children, spiritual growth and good fortune (bhagya). Even hard transits are cushioned by Jupiter's grace. The main risk, if Jupiter is afflicted, is excess — overconfidence, indulgence, or misplaced faith.

What the Jupiter mahadasha brings
When Jupiter is strong/well-placed: Wealth and good fortune, education and wisdom, children, marriage, spiritual growth, mentors, and general expansion and protection.
When Jupiter is weak/afflicted: Overconfidence and excess, weight or liver issues, complacency, and problems concerning children or teachers.
Sub-periods (antardashas)
Every mahadasha is divided into nine antardashas (bhuktis) — sub-periods ruled in turn by each of the nine planets, sized in proportion to their own dasha length. So a Jupiter mahadasha opens with Jupiter–Jupiter, then Jupiter–Saturn, and so on. The interplay between the major lord (Jupiter) and the sub-lord is what fine-tunes the actual results month to month — which is why a precise chart matters. This site computes all three levels (Maha → Antar → Pratyantar).
Remedies during the Jupiter dasha
If Jupiter is challenged in your chart, its classical remedies are especially worth observing while its dasha runs (use gems only if Jupiter suits your ascendant):
- Guru / Brihaspati mantra on Thursdays
- Wear yellow sapphire in gold (the most universally helpful gem when Jupiter suits the lagna)
- Respect teachers, study scripture, give in charity
