Dasha · Major Period 6/9

Rahu Mahadasha राहु

A 18-year Vimshottari period governed by Rahu ☊ — the north node — obsession, ambition and the hunger of this lifetime.

The Rahu mahadasha is eighteen years of intense worldly ambition. Rahu is desire, obsession, foreign things and the unconventional, so this period often brings dramatic, unexpected developments — sudden rises, foreign connections, new technologies, and a hunger to expand far beyond one's origins. Results can be spectacular but unstable: Rahu gives and then suddenly takes away, and its glamour (maya) can cloud judgement. Staying ethical and grounded is the whole art of surviving it well.

What the Rahu mahadasha brings

When Rahu is strong/well-placed: Sudden, unconventional success, foreign gains, fame, mastery of new fields and technology, and powerful material expansion.

When Rahu is weak/afflicted: Obsession and anxiety, deception and scandal, addictions, sudden reversals, confusion, and never feeling satisfied.

Sub-periods (antardashas)

Every mahadasha is divided into nine antardashas (bhuktis) — sub-periods ruled in turn by each of the nine planets, sized in proportion to their own dasha length. So a Rahu mahadasha opens with Rahu–Rahu, then Rahu–Jupiter, and so on. The interplay between the major lord (Rahu) and the sub-lord is what fine-tunes the actual results month to month — which is why a precise chart matters. This site computes all three levels (Maha → Antar → Pratyantar).
