Moon Mahadasha चन्द्र

A 10-year Vimshottari period governed by Moon ☽ — the mind, the mother, the emotions — the Vedic chart starts here.

The Moon mahadasha colours ten years with emotion, mind and the public. The Moon is the manas (feeling mind), the mother, and the masses, so this period highlights emotional life, home and family, public dealings and popularity. It often brings travel, changes of residence and a fluctuating, tidal quality to events. A bright, strong Moon gives emotional fulfilment, public favour and a happy domestic life; a weak or afflicted Moon brings moodiness, anxiety, and instability of mind and circumstance.

What the Moon mahadasha brings

When Moon is strong/well-placed: Emotional fulfilment, public popularity, domestic happiness, beneficial travel, intuition, and care from (or for) the mother.

When Moon is weak/afflicted: Mood swings and anxiety, instability, over-sensitivity, sleep and water-element issues, and a restless, unsettled mind.

Sub-periods (antardashas)

Every mahadasha is divided into nine antardashas (bhuktis) — sub-periods ruled in turn by each of the nine planets, sized in proportion to their own dasha length. So a Moon mahadasha opens with Moon–Moon, then Moon–Mars, and so on. The interplay between the major lord (Moon) and the sub-lord is what fine-tunes the actual results month to month — which is why a precise chart matters. This site computes all three levels (Maha → Antar → Pratyantar).
