Dasha · Major Period 3/9

Sun Mahadasha सूर्य

A 6-year Vimshottari period governed by Sun ☉ — the soul, the father, the king — your core identity and vitality.

The Sun mahadasha is the shortest at six years, and it puts the self at centre stage. The Sun is the soul, authority and the father, so this period tends to activate career, status, recognition and dealings with government and bosses. It is a time to step into your own authority and shine. A strong Sun gives promotion, fame and vitality; an afflicted Sun can bring ego conflict, friction with superiors or the father, and pressure on the heart and bones.

What the Sun mahadasha brings

When Sun is strong/well-placed: Recognition and promotion, leadership and authority, government favour, improved vitality, and a stronger sense of self.

When Sun is weak/afflicted: Ego clashes, friction with bosses or the father, pride, heart or eye trouble, and burnout from over-asserting.

Sub-periods (antardashas)

Every mahadasha is divided into nine antardashas (bhuktis) — sub-periods ruled in turn by each of the nine planets, sized in proportion to their own dasha length. So a Sun mahadasha opens with Sun–Sun, then Sun–Moon, and so on. The interplay between the major lord (Sun) and the sub-lord is what fine-tunes the actual results month to month — which is why a precise chart matters. This site computes all three levels (Maha → Antar → Pratyantar).
