Bhava · The Twelve Houses
The 4th House Sukha Bhava
Home, mother, happiness
The fourth house is the foundation of the chart — home, mother, land and inner peace. It is literally the bottom of the chart (the nadir), so it rules your roots: where you come from, the property and vehicles you own, and the felt sense of security in your heart. A strong 4th house gives a happy home and a settled mind; an afflicted one shows restlessness, a difficult mother karma, or never quite feeling at home.

House type — Kendra (an angular house)
In classical Jyotish, houses are grouped by nature. The 4th house is a kendra (an angular house). Kendras (1, 4, 7, 10) are pillars of strength; trikonas (1, 5, 9) are the most auspicious; dusthanas (6, 8, 12) bring difficulty but also depth; upachayas (3, 6, 10, 11) grow stronger over time and reward effort. This shapes how any planet behaves once it lands here.
